In this The Hidden Pool Book Review, I wanted to share an experience that was far more personal than I expected. I bought this book for my niece and ended up reading it myself. I suppose the child within you never truly dies. It was a quick read, by none other than our all-time favourite, Ruskin Bond, whom I’ve always admired since childhood. His story “The Face in the Dark” captivated me so much that I became an avid devourer of fiction.

The Hidden Pool feels so real, as if it were taken straight from a page of his own life. Even though he creates these characters out of thin air, he made me question whether they were, in fact, real. That’s the power of a great author, and Mr Bond has always wielded it effortlessly.

The Hidden Pool Book Review: A Journey Back to Childhood

The adventure in the book made me reminisce about so many moments lost in time that I found myself pausing simply to recall them. He is truly inspiring to budding writers. The ending of the book is quietly poignant, making you reflect on the friendships you’ve lost at different junctures in your life, while also reminding you of the crazy, carefree fun you had growing up.

It feels like a gentle reminder to cherish those precious childhood moments you shared with incredible people. At the same time, it serves as a bittersweet commentary on how nothing lasts forever, yet some experiences become cherished shared memories, stories that only you and your little group will ever truly treasure.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick summer read, particularly Ruskin Bond fans. It would also make a wonderful gift for a young, avid reader. Perfect for children! 🙂
